National security

Public Safety Canada is responsible for policy development and advice to the Minister on matters of national security. We are involved in the following initiatives, programs and files:

  • Policy advice and support
Public Safety Canada provides independent advice and support to the Minister on matters of national security.
  • Critical infrastructure
Public Safety Canada works with its partners to manage risks, reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen the resiliency of critical infrastructure.
  • Cross-Cultural Roundtable on Security
A key element of the National Security Policy, the Roundtable helps inform policy-makers about the impact of national security matters on our diverse society.
  • Listed entities
Canada's Anti-Terrorism Act enables the government to create a list of "entities" under the Criminal Code. This is a very public way to identify a group or individual as being associated with terrorism.
  • Security certificates
A mechanism for removing non-Canadians who pose a threat to Canada’s national security.
  • Reconsideration under the Passenger Protect Program
The Office of Reconsideration reviews the applications of individuals who have been the subject of an emergency direction not to board an aircraft under the Passenger Protect Program.
